Step 1: Create a Release
Once you have a FreeMusicDistribution.io account, you will be able to access your Music Distribution Dashboard.
Press the “Create a release” button to start uploading your first album, compilation, or single to more than 220 platforms.
Important: Don't start by uploading an audio, even for a single you have to create a release first.
Step 2: Upload Cover Art & Fill Release Information
Follow these steps to provide all the necessary details:
- Give a name to your release (single, album, or compilation).
- Fill in the artist(s): performers, composers, and authors.
- Fill in the label: use the FMDistro label or create your own.
- Provide the main and secondary genre of your release.
- Select the language and format: Single, EP, or Album.
Important: Cover art must match metadata. Avoid extra marketing or promotional text such as social media links, "Best Rapper of the Year," CD logos, or phone numbers. This is strictly prohibited.
Step 3: Licenses & Copyrights
Provide licensing details and pricing for your release:
- Set the price category: Budget, Mid, Full, or Premium (for download platforms).
- Select the digital and original release dates.
- Fill in the license and publishing rights owners (e.g., your name).
- Choose the territories for release (Entire World is recommended).
Step 4: Upload & Edit Tracks
Upload your audio files with the following requirements:
- File formats: WAV or FLAC (44.1kHz/16Bits/Stereo).
- Edit each track’s metadata to match the information provided in Step 2.
- Check for audio analysis warnings and resolve issues if necessary.
Note: Always click the pencil icon to edit metadata for each track. Metadata must match the release info, including artist, composer, label, and publishing rights.
Metadatas in your audio files must match the exact information at the album level.
If you created a single, the audio file must have the same release name, artist, performers (e.g., composers, songwriters), label, and publishing rights.
Any mismatch will result in rejection the you will validate the release!
Step 5: Preview & Distribute
Review all details of your release carefully, then click “Distribute this release”.
Step 6: Choose Platforms
Select the platforms where you want to distribute your release, then proceed with the order. If the system asks for €0, confirm without worry; no payment is required in that case.
Step 7: Track Distribution Progress
Monitor the progress of your release in the “History” tab. You can also view sales data from your dashboard.
Warning: If a platform refuses your release, it may be due to authorization issues or genre mismatches. You can continue distributing to other platforms in the meantime.
